Meet the Editor – Frank Calkins

Frank Calkins holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the George Washington University, a Master of Engineering Management degree from George Washington University, and a Master of Science in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia.

He is a licensed mechanical engineer and currently works on tactical generator sets for the U.S. Department of Defense. In this position, Frank serves as a lead engineer and subject matter expert for power and environmental control. He has been employed by the Department of Defense since 1987 in a variety of roles including branch chief for environmental and power control from 2009 to 2019. Frank is the brother of Global Library of Scientific Images founder Joe Calkins and welcomes the opportunity to work together. Frank notes the value to physicians and all scientists of learning from GLSI’s smaller projects and images.

When not working, Frank enjoys kayaking, hiking and spending time with his family, as well as working on cars. His last project was a Ford Mustang.
