Ashman Phenomenon

Description

ECG demonstrating atrial fibrillation with a ventricular rate of 93/min. The 11th complex is most likely an aberrantly conducted supraventricular complex (Ashman phenomenon). Ashman’s phenomenon results from increased refractoriness of the conduction system, most commonly the right bundle branch, which occurs when a short cycle follows a longer cycle. The cycle length preceding the aberrantly conducted complex is 821 msec and the cycle length that includes the aberrantly conducted complex is 492 msec.
