Gingival hypertrophy in Myeloid malignancy (AML M4 & M5 groups)

Description

A 25 year old female with heavy menstruation and transfusion dependent anemia over the previous two months presented with petechiae, ecchymoses and hypertrophied gums. On further evaluation, she was found have a blood picture of hemoglobin of 3.3 gm/dL, total leukocyte count of 178,000/mm3 and a platelet count of 8000/mm3. Peripheral blood film was suggestive of AML-M4. Gingival hypertrophy may be the only presentations of an underlying myeloid malignancy, especially in AML M4 & M5.
