Stable perforation of Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) by the strut of an unretrieved IVC filter

Description

72-year-old female with history of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and prior inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement presented with chest pain. CTA chest revealed stable perforation of the IVC by the posteromedial prong of the filter, with extension into the tunica media of the abdominal aorta (Panel A and B). Given her poor functional status, and no evidence of fistulae, pseudoaneurysm, or other obvious defects, the patient was managed conservatively with routine outpatient follow-up.
