Epithelia in a medullary section of a kidney (Rat)

Description

Epithelia in the medulla of a kidney from a Rat (20x). The green arrows indicate simple squamous epithelium lining a kidney tubule. This epithelium is composed of a single layer of flat cells above a basement membrane (indicated by the black arrows). The red arrows are pointing to a simple squamous epithelium lining a blood vessel. Note the presence of red blood cells in the lumen of this vessel. This particular simple squamous epithelium is called “endothelium” since it lines a blood vessel. The blue arrows point to simple cuboidal epithelium. Cuboidal epithelium in this section is lining thick limbs of the Loop of Henle, another kidney tubule.
